How to backup or restore your data on AndroidUpdated a month ago

You can backup all of your data, content and settings from your Android phone to your Google Account.

Restoring data depends on the phone and version of the Android. Both phones need to have the same Android versions, because you can't restore your data  or a backup from a higher Android version onto a phone that’s running a lower Android version.

Automatically back up data & settings

If you want to protect your backed-up data, we would recommend using a PIN, password screen lock or a pattern lock instead of a swipe or Smart lock.

  • Open ‘Settings’ on your phone

  • Click on ‘System’ -> click on ‘Backup’. Depending on the device, if it doesn't match your phone's settings, try searching ‘backup’ in your settings.

  • Turn on your ‘backup service’.

Manually back up data & settings

  • Open ‘Settings’ on your phone

  • Click on ‘System’  -> click on ‘Backup’. Depending on the device, if it doesn't match your phone's settings, try searching ‘backup’ in your settings.

  • Tap on ‘Back up now’ and click on ‘Continue’

Restore backed-up data & settings

Add your Google Account to a phone that's been set up. What you previously backed up for that Google Account gets put onto your phone.
